Cat and mouse tales

Cat electrocution warningIN A STORY more reminiscent of Tom and Jerry a cat chased a mouse around an Albanian power station coming to a somewhat abrupt end amidst some high voltage cables and causing the city of Tirana to be without power for 72 hours.

Albanians have complained for decades about the frequency of power cuts which are usually blamed on drought and the dilapidated state of the communist era grid. However staff at the power company now have a new excuse and apparently even took photos of the poor electrocuted animals to prove it. In the name of all that’s decent though, you won’t be finding copies of them here :-)

Cat snacks

A CAT survived for 19 days with a peanut butter jar stuck on its head . . .

A family in Tennessee had fed the feral cat for several years and had seen it on numerous occasions with the jar on its head and had tried in vain to catch it. Only after not seeing it for a week understandably they feared the worst.

Fortunately the found the once fat cat, now to weak to run away and to some oil to ease the jar f its head. They gave her water, treat her wounds and are happy to report she is now well and eating again.

Cat collection service

Cat travelling in carA CAT is baffling his owner by going out every night and then waiting to be collected every morning at exactly the same time and place . . .

Twelve-year-old Sgt Podge, a Norwegian Forest Cat leaves his home in Bournemouth on an evening and then waits for his owner every morning, on a pavement one and a half miles away.

Apparently it’s become such a routine that his pet parent Liz Bullard now collects him every morning after she’s dropped her son off at school. Even making special trips to collect him at weekends and holidays.

Ziggy’s tale

Ziggy the container surviving catA MOGGY called Ziggy after Ziggy Stardust, the character created by David Bowie in the 70’s, because like Bowie, he had one green and one blue eye, survived 17 days without food during a 2,300 mile journey from northern Israel to England.

Ziggy’s journey when he accidentally wandered into a consignment of plastic goods which were then sealed in a 40ft container in Afula in Israel, and shipped from Haifa on October 31st.

When the container was finally opened at a Lancashire warehouse, workers were amazed to see a fluffy white cat shoot out. The RSPCA were called and although the cat had survived 17 days without food and water, it also managed to evade capture for 5 hours.

Ziggy’s background remains a mystery although because he’s so friendly he’s believed to have been someones pet. He now faces 6 months quarantine in Britain as a precaution against rabies.

Bank issues credit card to cat

Cat shopping onlineCat with credit cardA CAT could soon be living the high life thanks to an Australian bank issuing it with a credit card.

Katherine Campbell decided to test the Bank of Queensland’s identity security system by applying for a secondary card on her account in her cat, Messiah’s name.

The bank has since cancelled the card and apologised with a statement that surely has to have it’s customers convinced of it’s commitment to security: “we apologise as this should not have happened”.

Mog mail

Cat in boxA PENSIONER from Rosdorf in Schleswig Holstein, Germany accidentally posted her pet mog to her nephew.

Fortunately the moggy was discovered by a postman at the central sorting office, who upon realising there was an animal inside the package, immediately notified the police.

Edith Schonberg said she hadn’t even noticed her mog was missing as she thought it was still asleep in the airing cupboard. It’s believed that Felix, her three year old tom, must have climbed into the packaging while she left the room to locate some cellotape.
